How to prevent inadvertent shutdown of the RWS.

 

 

Question: The RWS locks up during live flight. What is the appropriate action?

Answer:

RWS Power Management, Hibernate, & Screen Saver Setup
Standard Operating Procedure

1.0 Purpose

 
This procedure sets power management, hibernate, and screen saver settings to ensure the stability of the RWS operational software during a live flight. The steps below should be followed for all RWS users accounts.

2.0  Power Management

 

  1. In Windows Control Panel/Power Options select the Advanced tab of the Power Options Properties window. The Advanced Power Options Properties window opens (Figure 1).

2. In the Power button block, click on the pull down arrow of ‘When I press the power button on my computer:’ and select “Ask me what to do” (figure 2).

3. Click the “Apply” button on the Power Options Properties window to save all changes.

 3.0  Power Down & Hibernate

 

  1. Power Schemes tab: In the Settings for Home/Office Desk power scheme block, click on the pull down arrow to select the Turn off monitor “After 3 hours”
  2. Also ensure that the Turn Off Hard disks, System Standby, and System Hibernates are selected to “Never”.  If not, select the appropriate fields and change the setting.  The final product on the “Power Schemes” tab should look like the following before proceeding.  (Figures 3 & 4)

 4.0  Screen Saver Setting

 

  1. Select the Screen Saver tab and click the pull down arrow from the Screen Saver block and select “None”. (Figure 5)
